Digital Specialist

The Australian Ballet is currently recruiting for a full time Digital Specialist for a 13 month parental leave cover, commencing 10 September, 2018.

The Digital Specialist is responsible for supporting the marketing function in best practice activity and approach across digital communications, namely website and email. This position is similar to a digital product manager role and will help drive a world-class digital experience to grow the customer base and increase website revenue.

2019 The Robert and Elizabeth Albert Piano Fellowship

The Australian Ballet is currently recruiting for a one-year full time Piano Fellowship, commencing in January 2019.

The Fellowship will provide the opportunity to gain insights and experience in all aspects of dance musicianship. The recipient will work alongside The Australian Ballet pianists as a member of the Music Department and will observe ballet classes and rehearsals, participate in coaching sessions with company pianists, prepare material for ballet class and learn repertoire from the company’s 2019 season. The opportunity to accompany ballet classes and rehearsals is also available, dependent upon the development of the appropriate skills.

The Australian Ballet is recruiting for an experienced full time Costumier to join its talented team in the Melbourne-based Costume Workshop.

The role is responsible for both sewing new costumes and refurbishing existing costumes and requires industrial sewing machine and hand sewing experience, in addition to fabric knowledge. 

This is a non-touring position, although interstate travel may be required.

Work experience


The Australian Ballet offers five work experience placements in administration to Year 10 school students each year. Students get the opportunity to assist a range of departments at the head office in Melbourne, including company management, customer services, wardrobe, and marketing, as well as observing dancers in rehearsals and class. Due to the popularity of the program, places fill very quickly. The 2018 program us fully booked. Bookings for the 2019 work experience program will open in March 2018.

Wardrobe - Production

The Australian Ballet’s wardrobe department caters for secondary and tertiary work-experience placements. There are five one-week placements available per year for Year 10 students. Students should apply during the third term of the year prior to their requested placement. You need to be able to use a domestic sewing machine and be proficient in hand-sewing. Final-year students are given preference, but placements for other year levels can also be arranged, depending on availability. Tertiary students should apply to The Australian Ballet, outlining their course requirements, relevant experience, and why they wish to undertake a placement at The Australian Ballet.
