Director of Production

THE AUSTRALIAN BALLET SEEKS DIRECTOR OF PRODUCTION

The Australian Ballet is one of the world’s leading national ballet companies and a globally recognised Australian major performing arts organisation with an annual turnover of $70 million and 270 staff.

Each year the company presents upwards of 220 performances through its main stage seasons in Melbourne, Sydney, Brisbane, Adelaide, Canberra and Perth along with public programs, special events, an extensive regional tour, a Children’s Ballet and Education programs and regular overseas tours. Led by Artistic Director David Hallberg, the Company moves effortlessly between the great classical works and the best of contemporary dance, including new commissions from both home and abroad.

The Director of Production is a pivotal role responsible for leading all aspects of The Australian Ballet’s productions including planning seasons across future years, annual budgeting, new show builds, delivery of seasons, effective communication and team management.

This role oversees all aspects of the Production, Technical, Costume and Production Centre teams, cultivating creativity, mutual respect and excellence across the stage, workshops and studios.

Reporting to the Executive Director Lissa Twomey, this Executive Leadership team role contributes to the delivery of strategic business initiatives. The successful candidate will have extensive experience in technical and production areas of performing arts, including an understanding of national and international industry best practice. Strong project management and leadership skills with proven experience of leading specialist teams, alongside astute financial management and modelling, is essential.

With a recent renewal at both Executive and Board levels, the national ballet company is poised for a transformative phase in its history, promising significant impact and ambition in the years ahead in line with the Strategic Plan 2024-2027.

LOCATION AND EMPLOYMENT ARRANGEMENTS

This is a full-time position located in Melbourne/Naarm, Victoria, however involves some touring requirements.

Reporting to the Financial Controller, the Finance Operations Manager is responsible for delivering accurate and timely accounting operational support with a focus on resource management for The Australian Ballet. This role is a key leadership role in the finance team, ensuring all management, statutory and government reporting requirements are met.

Company Pianist

Melbourne

We are seeking an experienced ballet pianist to join the Music Team. Applicants must be expert pianists, have considerable experience in playing for professional ballet classes and rehearsals, and a broad knowledge of the classical ballet repertoire. Pianists of The Australian Ballet can be asked to perform orchestral piano and keyboards in the Company’s seasons. Additionally, they may be invited to perform as soloists.

The Australian Ballet holds auditions only when we have dancer contracts available. Should you submit your information for consideration, we will hold it on file and make contact only with dancers the company wishes to audition.
