Head Of Planning (12 Month Contract)

We currently have an exciting opportunity to join our team as the Head of Planning on a Fixed Term 12-month Maternity Leave contract.
The Head of Planning is responsible for delivery of agreed TAB productions, contract and royalty negotiation and artistic planning to ensure annual season plans are realised.
This senior position is responsible for working collaboratively with the Director of Artistic Planning and Producing to schedule seasons, timely and efficient contracting of theatres, artists and creatives and securing licenses and rights associated with agreed repertoire.
The Head of Planning is a key contributor in organisational communications, information sharing and forward planning.

Repetiteur and Rehabilitation Specialist

The role of Repetiteur and Rehabilitation Specialist is responsible for designing, developing, and implementing ballet training programs to support dancers' rehabilitation and injury prevention; contribute to dancers' artistic and technical development and ensure dancers’ safe return to repertoire following injury through specialised coaching. This is a non-touring position.

Company Pianist


We are seeking an experienced ballet pianist to join the Music Team. Applicants must be expert pianists, have considerable experience in playing for professional ballet classes and rehearsals, and a broad knowledge of the classical ballet repertoire. Pianists of The Australian Ballet can be asked to perform orchestral piano and keyboards in the Company’s seasons. Additionally, they may be invited to perform as soloists.

x2 First Nations Traineeships

What is the Australian Ballet Education & Outreach First Nations Traineeship?

The Australian Ballet Traineeship Program is a multidisciplinary dance-based program that provides young First Nations artists with the opportunity to present dance experiences to youth across Australia. This is a paid work experience opportunity that can be tailored to suit the skills and career aspirations of the trainees while working alongside some of Australia’s best dance educators.

In the past 16 years, The Australian Ballet Education and Outreach Team has delivered its program to over 200,000 people in Australia who may not have been able to access a ballet experience because of their financial, geographic or social circumstances. Trainees are employed for 16 weeks within the team and take part in touring and Melbourne-based training, performing and teaching activities. These activities include workshops for pre-school, primary and secondary students, as well as creative and community residencies, including performances designed for young audiences.

Are there dancer auditions?

The Australian Ballet holds auditions only when we have dancer contracts available. Should you submit your information for consideration, we will hold it on file and make contact only with dancers the company wishes to audition.

Due to the extremely high number of submissions we receive, we are unable to provide individual feedback for applicants. Regardless of whether your application is successful, we thank you for your interest in joining our Company, and sincerely encourage you to continue pursuing your ambitions.

How long does the recruitment process take?

For each position we publish, the process may be different, but generally it is a several weeks.
