OUR FIRST ANNA

The Australian Ballet’s first-ever production of Anna Karenina was a grand affair, choreographed by the Parisian-born Russian choreographer André Prokovsky and costumed by the renowned theatre designer Peter Farmer, whose sets and costumes feature in several of the company’s key ballets.

Prokovsky’s Anna Karenina premiered in 1979, with a starry cast: Marilyn Rowe and Gary Norman as Anna and Vronsky, and Garth Welch as Karenin.

From our archive, we’ve curated a close-up look at our first Anna.
