The Australian Ballet returns to Tokyo, marking its first tour to Japan in 15 years

  • Tokyo, Japan

    30 May – 1 June 2025

This landmark tour will showcase the Company's renowned production of Don Quixote, Rudolf Nureyev’s celebrated ballet and a cornerstone of The Australian Ballet’s repertoire.

Since 1962, The Australian Ballet has performed in 38 countries and 88 cities around the world. This tour follows The Tokyo Ballet’s 2023 debut in Australia, presented by the Japan Performing Arts Foundation (NBS).

Performances will take place at the iconic Tokyo Bunka Kaikan, renowned for hosting the world’s finest ballet companies. Over 100 members of The Australian Ballet, including dancers, crew, and medical support, will bring the full production to life, from the costumes and sets to Nureyev’s visionary choreography.

This tour marks the 50-year cultural connection between The Australian Ballet and Japan, a relationship that continues to thrive.

NBS Pre-Sale: Opens 24 January and ends 29 January
General On Sale: Opens 31 January

Tickets will be available exclusively through the Japan Performing Arts Foundation (NBS) website.

The Australian Ballet’s 2025 Japan tour has been enabled by the generous supporters of the International Touring Fund.

This tour is a celebration of Nureyev’s iconic work and highlights the talent of our dancers. We are honoured to deepen our cultural ties with Japan, and I hope our audiences in Tokyo will be as enchanted by this masterpiece as we are proud to share it.

It’s truly special to welcome The Australian Ballet back to Tokyo after 15 years, especially after our own company, The Tokyo Ballet, visited Australia in 2023. Japanese audiences have been eagerly waiting to see these remarkable artists, and we couldn’t be more excited to share their talent with them.
