Professor Emeritus Susan Street AO has dedicated more than three decades to leadership in higher education, following an accomplished international career as a professional dancer in both Australia and Holland. Her distinguished academic journey includes serving as Head of Dance at the Queensland University of Technology (QUT), before being appointed Dean of Dance at the Hong Kong Academy for Performing Arts.
In 2006, she returned to QUT to take up the role of Dean of the Creative Industries Faculty, later serving as Executive Director in QUT’s International Division, where she played a pivotal role in advancing the university’s global engagement and reputation.
Susan has contributed extensively to Australia’s cultural and international sectors through significant board appointments, including the Queensland Performing Arts Centre Trust, the Australia China Council, and the Australia Korea Foundation. She also served as Chair of the Board of the Queensland Art Gallery and Gallery of Modern Art, guiding one of the nation’s most important cultural institutions.
Her contributions to dance and education have been widely recognised. In 1999 she received an Australian Dance Award for services to Dance Education, and in 2000 was awarded the title of Emeritus Professor by QUT. She was made an Honorary Life Member of Ausdance in 2012, and in 2014 was appointed an Officer (AO) of the Order of Australia in recognition of her distinguished service to the arts, education, and cultural leadership.
