Growing up in the eastern suburbs of Melbourne, Charlton's journey in dance began in 2011 at the age of seven at the Utassy Ballet School under the mentorship of Sue Hayes. Showing early promise, Charlton joined The Melbourne City Youth Ballet in 2015 under the guidance of Yuiko Masukawa. In 2017, Charlton embarked on formal training at the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School. His dedication and talent were further recognised when he gained admission to The Australian Ballet School in 2019 where he graduated as Dux in 2023.
In 2016, Charlton joined the cast of Houston Ballet’s Romeo and Juliet during their Melbourne season alongside Andrew Murphy who later became Charlton’s teacher at The Australian Ballet School. Charlton joined The Australian Ballet in 2024.
