Born of Australia’s enduring love of ballet and culture of storytelling, The Australian Ballet has been delighting audiences around the world with the power of dance for 60 years.

The Australian Ballet’s ties with the UK can be traced back to its earliest days when London-born founding Artistic Director Dame Peggy van Praagh established the company. This special connection has run throughout the life of The Australian Ballet and informed the company’s commitment to fostering deep and enduring relationships with cultural institutions around the world.

Since its inception The Australian Ballet has toured to the UK eight times, most recently in 2016 when we won the UK Critics’ Circle Award for best Foreign Dance Company.

London 2023

Our London 2023 tour and return to the Royal Opera House is deeply meaningful to the company for many reasons. It celebrates 60 years of The Australian Ballet and of our special relationship with the UK, it heralds our return to the iconic Royal Opera House stage for the first time in 35 years and it marks the company's return to international touring since 2019.

The London 2023 Tour also symbolises the beginning of an exciting new chapter for The Australian Ballet, as Artistic Director David Hallberg – a world-renowned and international artist of the highest regard in his own right – renews his ambition to proudly share the best of Australian dance, artistry and creativity with the world.

UK Foundation

Supporting David Hallberg’s aspiration to reinforce the company’s reputation for excellence on the world stage, The Australian Ballet Foundation (UK) has been established as a wholly owned subsidiary of The Australian Ballet Board to accelerate the company’s growing ambitions in the UK and internationally.

We greatly appreciate the support of our UK-based Directors and look forward to strengthening those relationships as our connection to the UK continues.
