The rich tradition of philanthropy at The Australian Ballet began just a few weeks after the company was founded in September 1962. Ever since the company’s earliest days, our special community of philanthropic supporters has made many of the key moments in the life of The Australian Ballet possible.

Through the support and devotion of ballet lovers from every corner of Australia who have donated what they can to sustain our company and elevate the art form, we can continue to inspire, delight, and challenge audiences through the power of our performances.

We invite you to be part of our community who are enabling David Hallberg to achieve his artistic vision of elevating the company to even greater heights by realising the true potential of our dancers, expanding our repertoire and touring footprint, and engaging with communities beyond the stage.

Individuals who give to The Australian Ballet are welcomed into our Ballet community and invited to get to know the dancers and teams behind the curtains who create the magic you see on stage.

Annual Giving

The Heart of Philanthropy at The Australian Ballet

We invite you to join David Hallberg as he shapes a historic new chapter for the Ballet and redefines how future generations talk about our beloved art form and company.

In an average year, ticket sales account for just over half of our running costs. Contributing to our Annual Giving program is one of the most significant ways you can play a part in our future.

The Australian Ballet’s Annual Giving program underpins the company’s everyday activities and makes a meaningful difference to the standard we present on stage, as an organisation and as a cultural leader.

There are a number of ways that you can choose to show your support through Annual Giving, from Supporters and Devotees through to Principal Patrons. Every commitment enables us to develop the highest standard of dancers and repertoire. And the collective generosity of our supporters ensures audiences near and far continue to experience the very best of Australian and international artistry.

Supporters of the Annual Giving program become a patron of The Australian Ballet and join a special community of patrons whom we get to know patrons personally, and regularly offer opportunities to get even closer to the company.

Planned Giving

A gift in your will is the gift of a lifetime.

With your kindness and generosity there will always be an Australian Ballet.

Leaving a gift to The Australian Ballet in your Will is a heartfelt gesture that will pave the way and futureproof the company for future generations – ensuring your ballet company continues to uplift and delight audiences for the next 60 years.

The gifts we receive from estates are invested in long-term funds to create perpetual income that will help keep Australia dancing for generations to come.

The Australian Ballet’s Gifts in Wills program through Planned Giving was established in 1990. Since then, more than 350 ballet lovers have made provisions for the company in their Wills. 

Every gift – no matter how large or small – is truly transformational and has the power to shape and sustain The Australian Ballet of tomorrow.

In recent times, we have been able to keep dancing through the uncertainty of the COVID-19 pandemic thanks to the foresight and dedication of ballet lovers like you.

Ballet Ambassadors

The Next Generation of Philanthropists

Founded by Global Ambassador Sarah Murdoch in 2015, the Ballet Ambassador program a global network that engages with ballet lovers around the world and welcomes them, as the next generation of our patrons and supporters, into the active life of The Australian Ballet.

The program offers a unique opportunity to enjoy and learn more about Australia’s national ballet company, whilst directly supporting our dancers.

As one of a limited number of Ballet Ambassadors you will enjoy privileged, behind-the-scenes access to the ballet and invitations to purchase tickets to exclusive Ballet Ambassador events that give a unique insight into The Australian Ballet.
