Philanthropy
From those who love dance, to those who love to dance

Philanthropy is a gift

Join The Australian Ballet family

The rich tradition of philanthropy at The Australian Ballet started just a few weeks after the company’s founding in September 1962.

In the years that have followed, many of our key achievements have been made possible through the support and generosity of ballet lovers from every corner of Australia, who have donated what they can to help sustain our company and elevate the art form.

Individuals who give to The Australian Ballet are welcomed into our ‘Ballet family’ and invited to get to know our dancers and the teams who work behind the curtain.

Below are just some of the ways you can get involved, be a part of the vibrant fabric of the company and keep us dancing towards our 60th birthday.

Every time we look at The Australian Ballet we see beauty, grace, romance, artistry, strength, power and athleticism. This is made possible by everyone making the extra effort: great teachers, great dancers, a great support team and a great philanthropic community.

Annual Giving

The Heart of Giving at The Australian Ballet

Annual Giving underpins the company’s everyday activities and is the most significant way you can help the company.

Contributing in this way will directly support our dancers and maintain our daily operations, ensuring we’re able to pick up where we left off when the time is right for the curtain to go up in our theatres.

With you by our side, we can:

  • ensure our Artistic and Health teams can support our dancers as they train and prepare for our return to the stage;
  • create and offer a wide range of online ballet activities for dancers of all ages;
  • delight our audiences with a wealth of content through our Digital Season during the time we’re unable to perform live

We invite you to join a group of dedicated ballet lovers who are providing critical support to the company, shaping who are today and what we’ll become tomorrow.

We get to know our Annual Giving patrons personally and enjoy many special moments together, in support of The Australian Ballet and our dancers.

Planned Giving

A gift in your will is the gift of a lifetime.

This year we’re celebrating the 30th anniversary of our Planned Giving program, through which funds from generous individuals who have left a gift to The Australian Ballet in their will create a solid foundation that will sustain the company for future generations.

Since our Planned Giving program started in 1990, over 350 ballet lovers from around the country have notified The Australian Ballet of their decision to leave a gift to the company in their will.

Funds received from bequests are invested in The Australian Ballet Foundation to create perpetual income for the company. The long-term impact is transformational and shapes The Australian Ballet of tomorrow.

Over the course of our history, gifts received from wills have allowed us to create world-class productions, dance on the world stage and offer our dancers the very best care and facilities so they can perform at their peak.

As part of the Planned Giving program, donors are given the opportunity to join The Dame Peggy van Praagh Leadership Circle, named in honour of our founding artistic director. Members enjoy unique opportunities to engage with the company.

For a confidential conversation about how you can have a transformative impact on the future of The Australian Ballet, contact your Planned Giving Manager.

Ballet Ambassadors

The Next Generation of Philanthropists

Founded by Global Ambassador Sarah Murdoch in 2015, the Ballet Ambassador program is a dynamic initiative that engages with ballet lovers and welcomes them as the next generation of patrons and supporters into the active life of The Australian Ballet.

The program offers a unique opportunity to enjoy and learn more about Australia’s national ballet company through exclusive access to special events, our dancers and artistic team, while directly supporting our dancers.

As a Ballet Ambassador you will enjoy privileged, behind-the-scenes access to the ballet and invitations to purchase tickets to exclusive Ballet Ambassador events that give a unique insight into The Australian Ballet.

Ballet Ambassadors contribute a tax-deductible donation of $1,000 or more per annum to be part of the program, with these generous contributions going towards programs to help the health and wellbeing of our dancers.
