Duncan began his piano studies with Mona Lee before studying at the University of Melbourne with Mack Jost. He completed a Bachelor of Music with performance honours in 1986. In 2011, he completed a Masters degree in Music Technology at the University of Newcastle, graduating with distinction. In 1985 Duncan joined the staff of the Victorian College of the Arts: School of Dance. In 1989 he joined The Australian Ballet School before taking up the position of pianist and associate music librarian for The Australian Ballet in 1994. His solo performances for The Australian Ballet include Beyond 40, Other Dances, Mercurial Manoeuvres, Grand Tarantella, The Concert, Petite Mort, After the Rain©, Dyad 1929, The Silver Rose, At the edge of night, Concerto, The Four Temperaments, Ballet Imperial and Symphonic Variations. Duncan’s solo work has also featured in The Australian Ballet’s Bodytorque seasons.
