Dance for Seniors
Discover the joy of ballet
Dance for seniors is an inclusive ballet class designed to provide a gentle, structured and enjoyable dance experience.
Exercises follow the barre and centre format of a traditional ballet class and include references to the music and productions of The Australian Ballet. Exercises are designed to build strength and mobility, improve balance, and increase hand-eye coordination, memory and musicality.
Current Programs
We partner with venues across Australia to deliver classes and workshops. If you're a venue interested in collaborating on a project, please contact [email protected]
We are currently running a series in Melbourne at The Australian Ballet Centre. If you are interested in these classes, please see information about The Classics Series
More information
Teachers are experienced in modifying the exercises to suit those with partial mobility, degenerative conditions or those who need some support with short-term memory. There will be many options available such as the use of a chair, barre or partner for support.
If possible prior to the first session, participants should flag in advance if they need to work in a chair or do part of the session in a chair so we can have those available. Carers or partners are welcome to take part and support. Participants with a diagnosed medical condition should participate in accordance with their doctor's advice and chat to the teacher prior to class should they have any concerns.
Bookings
Sessions can be booked by individually or as a series. Bookings are open and can suit council venues, nursing homes, community groups and dance studios.
Our Education and Outreach team delivers dance workshops across Australia. To enquire about hosting our Dance for Seniors workshops at your venue please contact [email protected] or call 03 9669 2525.
