Connecting exercises workshop

Each of these workshops will discuss and demonstrate the relationship between The Australian Ballet’s unique approach to conditioning and the classical dance technique it supports. The workshops will be run by members of The Australian Ballet’s medical team including Body Conditioning Specialist Paula Baird-Colt and Physiotherapist Sophie Emery.

Supporting turnout
What is turnout? What does turnout feel like? Can I improve my turnout? These are some of the questions dancers often ask. In this workshop, Paula will cover some of the conditioning exercises The Australian Ballet uses to support turnout.

Preparing for the ballet class
The ballet class is the primary training ground for ballet dancers and over time stretching has been integrated into its structure to support the dancers’ technical goals.

In this workshop, we focus on the question, so where and how does stretching fit in to a dancer’s supplemental body conditioning program? Join us as we explore the traditional structure of a ballet class and learn how current concepts from sports medicine can be integrated into the preparation for a ballet class.

for dance teachers, dancers age 16 and over with classical ballet training, and allied health professionals working with dancers. Participants who do not fit these requirements will be unable to attend. The name, gender and date of birth of each participant is required at the time of booking.
