At Home with Ballet TV

2020 Digital Season

STARTS SUNDAY 5 APRIL

Our free cinema-quality digital season brings our full-length performances to Australians at home.

Our gift to you.

Ballet is powerful magic. It can draw you out of your lounge room and into forests and castles and starry skies. It can make you forget your worries and feel the freedom and exhilaration of unbridled leaps and lifts. Throughout its centuries of history, ballet has always offered the most wonderful escape from troubled times, and even though our theatres are closed, we want to offer you that gift.

Our new At Home with Ballet TV digital season will beam our premium-quality productions right to your couch for free. We’ve hand-picked a selection of our most beloved and inspiring ballets, and each will have a limited two-week season on our streaming platform, Ballet TV. Absolutely free!

We’re all at home – but we’re all together. And together, we’ll dance our way through.

Our June - August schedule is available below.

COPPÉLIA

AVAILABLE FROM THURSDAY 9 JULY, 5PM AEST

This production is brought to you free by our Principal Partner Telstra

Love triumphs over all in this comedy of errors and mistaken identity. Inspired by E.T.A. Hoffmann’s fantastical short stories, Coppélia is a sparkling tale of magic and mischief that has charmed and enchanted audiences worldwide since its premiere in 1870.

Meet the lovers Swanilda and Franz and their neighbour Dr Coppelius, an eccentric toymaker who dreams of bringing his mechanical toys to life. Dr Coppelius has a daughter who is not what she seems and Swanilda must rescue Franz from the magician’s sinister doll-filled lair – with the help of some fancy footwork!

Starring real-life couple Ako Kondo and Chengwu Guo, this production was filmed live at the Sydney Opera House in 2016 with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra and features exquisite costumes by master designer Kristian Fredrikson.

We’ve also dipped into our archives to bring you our 1990 recording of Coppélia, featuring the great stars Lisa Pavane, Greg Horsman and Colin Peasley.

SUPPORT OUR ARTISTS

We look forward to returning to the stage, in great spirits and in great shape. But we can’t do it without you. With no ticket sales, which form the majority of our income, we are now facing the most critical challenge in our 58-year history. If you are able to, please consider making a donation to help us keep the company afloat during the coming months. Your generous support will help us reach our 60th birthday and keep world-class ballet in Australia for generations to come.
