Allegro Brillante

Allegro Brillante is one of George Balanchine’s most joyous, pure dance pieces. Described by the ballerina Maria Tallchief, on whom the bravura leading role was created, as “expansive Russian romanticism”, Allegro Brillante is set to Tschaikovsky’s Piano Concerto No. 3.

Originally intended as his Sixth Symphony, Tschaikovsky’s composition moves at a vigorous pace, making the steps appear even more difficult, but the ballet relies on strong dancing, precise timing and breadth of gesture.

Balanchine described this ballet as a concentrated essay in the extended classical vocabulary, in which a maximum amount of choreographic development is contained within a rather restricted area of time and space.

Swan Lake

Deep in the forest lies a mysterious lake under the power of the evil sorcerer von Rothbart. Captive maidens are transformed into swans, unable to break free from Rothbart’s dark magic.

As darkness falls, Prince Siegfried sees a beautiful white bird in flight and follows it into the forest. Swans are returning to the lake and, in amazement, he sees one transformed into a maiden. Siegfried is transfixed by Odette, the Queen of the Swans. Her beauty and anguish compels Siegfried to believe Odette is his true love and the ideal he seeks.

Circle Electric: Prologue

Enter the ring. Circle Electric: Prologue invites you into an intricate web of human relationships. Six dancers explore the impact we have on each other’s lives – fleeting or lasting – and the complex dynamics of togetherness. Love, pain, trust, conflict. The euphoria of connection, the heartache of loss. Each interaction is a slice of life. The dancers weave, collide, entangle and move in unison. Imagine looking through a microscope and seeing a buzzing disc of interconnectivity, a microcosm. Every touch, every synchronisation magnified, put under the spotlight.

The Sleeping Beauty ACT III

To celebrate Princess Aurora and Prince Désiré’s wedding, the King and Queen give a magnificent ball. After their wedding, Désiré and Aurora are crowned: they will succeed to the throne and will rule over the kingdom in peace and happiness.
