Synopsis

ACT 1

Oxford 1862

At a garden party, Lewis Carroll entertains Alice and her two sisters with stories and magic tricks. The family’s gardener, Jack, gives Alice a rose and she gives him a jam tart, but Alice’s mother accuses Jack of stealing the tart and sends him away.
As a curious variety of guests arrive, Lewis Carroll take Alice’s photograph when he suddenly grows a tail and vanishes. Alice follows him down the rabbit hole and into a mysterious world, where she meets strange and magical creatures.
After a close encounter with the Queen of Hearts, who is searching for whomever stole her tarts, the White Rabbit (Lewis Carroll) and the Knave (Jack) are worried for Alice’s safety and forbid her to follow them and blindfold her.

ACT 2

The Mad Hatter's Tea Party

Alice asks a Cheshire Cat for directions and then arrives at a bizarre tea party with a Mad Hatter, a March Hare and a sleepy Dormouse. Escaping, she meets a Caterpillar perched on a mushroom, who lifts her spirits.
Alice then enters a garden full of strange and beautiful flowers where she finds the Knave. The Knave is still being pursued by the Queen (Mother) and he escapes followed by the White Rabbit and Alice.

ACT 3

The Palace Gardens

Three gardeners are painting the Queen’s rosebushes red after mistakenly planting white roses which the Queen loathes. The Queen arrives and sees their error ordering the gardeners executed. The Duchess and the Queen play a game of croquet with flamingos for mallets and hedgehogs for balls. The Queen accuses the Duchess of cheating and orders her to be executed.
The Knave is discovered and brought to court to face trial. As wonderland’s inhabitants give their evidence, the court descends into mayhem, and Alice makes an impassioned speech admitting she stole the tarts, and that the Knave is innocent. The Queen is unmoved and seizes an axe, chasing Alice and the Knave.
With no escape in sight, Alice reluctantly pushes a witness over. As one witness falls, so does another until the entire court collapses – after all, they're only playing cards.

Suddenly, in the midst of all the chaos, Alice awakes.
