Strategic Plan

To achieve our vision to be globally acclaimed as one of the world’s leading national ballet companies and as the pre-eminent ballet company in the Asia-Pacific region, The Australian Ballet commenced a new Five Year Strategic Plan in 2015.  

FIVE YEAR STRATEGIC PLAN

Our history of success forms the basis of our seven goals for 2020:


1. Artistic Excellence

We will be the company of choice for outstanding dancers and attract the best international creatives to work across all areas of the company. In 2019 The Australian Ballet will be a company of 85 dancers, performing with internationally renowned guest artists and regularly working with final-year students from The Australian Ballet School to augment company numbers and create development opportunities for emerging talent.

 

2. Performance footprint

We will present more and varied productions of the highest standard in key Australia markets as well as regularly performing throughout Australia and in key cultural centres in the Asia-Pacific region, Europe and America.

 

3. Audience growth and brand development

We will grow our brand and reputation so that The Australian Ballet is a globally acclaimed company, recognised for creative excellence and innovation, and embraced both by our loyal audiences and by new generations of consumers.

 

4. Facilities and infrastructure

We will address shortcomings in our facilities and develop our infrastructure to support growth in dancer numbers, in our orchestra, and in our performance footprint, while maximising the commercial opportunities that ownership of infrastructure enables.

 

5. Our relationship with The Australian Ballet School 

We will implement artistic, strategic, operational and business processes which create an effective partnership between The Australian Ballet and The Australian Ballet School, increasing efficiencies so that talented dancers can progress seamlessly from their training to employment.

 

6. Commercial model

We will continue to achieve an operating profit each year. In the short term, we will implement an agreed funding model and efficiency targets which arm management with a budget and financial-management framework.

 

7. People and culture

We will be a company that helps our people realise their potential while contributing to the success of the organisation. Our goals, operating principles, behaviours and values will be aligned and we will work as one team. Clear communication, high standards, accountability and fair reward will be the norm.
