Timothy Murray was born in Sydney in 1992, and moved to Melbourne to join Orchestra Victoria. He took up the bassoon at the age of 13 after studying clarinet. Timothy attended the Conservatorium High School and the Sydney Conservatorium of Music under the tutelage of Andrew Barnes. During this time he received a Big Brother Travelling Scholarship, giving him the opportunity to study overseas. In 2014 he was awarded a Sydney Symphony Fellowship and toured to China with the orchestra. In the same year, he won the Sydney Conservatorium Concerto Competition, performing as soloist with the Conservatorium Orchestra. He has performed with the Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, the Australian Chamber Orchestra and the Australian Youth Orchestra with whom he toured to Europe in 2013.
