Principal Bassoon Lucinda Cran was born in Sydney to professional musician parents. She grew up listening to her father (John Cran, former Principal Bassoon, Sydney Symphony Orchestra) playing the bassoon and, at the age of 13, after learning piano and flute, began taking bassoon lessons herself. She studied with her father while attending the Conservatorium High School in Sydney and went on to work with the ABC Training Orchestra, Queensland Theatre Orchestra, Australian Chamber Orchestra, Australian Opera and Ballet Orchestra, and the Sydney Symphony Orchestra, with whom she toured the United States in 1988 before joining Orchestra Victoria in 1989.
You may not know …
Her biggest inspiration is her late father, who was still playing the bassoon at the age of 92.
