Described as ‘a flautist with incomparably beautiful tone’, Karen currently holds the Associate Principal Flute chair with Orchestra Victoria, Australia. She gained her PhD, researching the performance of 20th century Eastern European flute repertoire, from The University of Melbourne, and her Masters and Bachelor with Honours performance degrees from the Victorian College of the Arts. Karen has studied and performed throughout Europe, Canada, the US, and the UK, and was the recipient of an Ian Potter Foundation grant. She has recorded several concertos with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra and has won awards such as The Marion Isobel Thomas Award, The Mozart Concerto Award, the Leslie Barklamb Scholarship and the ABC/MSO Young Artist Award. Karen is a regular guest in various orchestras around the country and enjoys an active schedule of chamber music. In addition to Karen’s performance life, she is a passionate researcher and educator across all sectors.
