Associate Principal Oboist Joshua de Graaf was born in 1983 in the lush and leafy Dandenong Ranges, just outside of Melbourne. The sound of the oboe, and sympathising with the duck in Peter and the Wolf at the age of three, inspired his love of the instrument, which he took up at the age of twelve. A graduate of the Victorian College of the Arts and the Australian National Academy of Music, Joshua has performed with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Sydney Symphony Orchestra, Tasmania Symphony Orchestra, Adelaide Symphony Orchestra and Queensland Symphony Orchestra. He has been a member of the Sydney Sinfonia, the Australian Youth Orchestra and the Young Australian Concert Artists, and has toured China with Royal Melbourne Philharmonic Orchestra in 2007–8. Joshua also teaches oboe at the Melbourne University, Monash University and the Victorian College of the Arts Secondary School.
