Born in Moonee Ponds, Victoria in 1985, Dafydd has played a variety of musical instruments since the age of three, finally settling on the oboe in high school. He has studied at the University of Melbourne, the University of Tasmania and the Australian National Academy of Music and has performed with Melbourne Symphony Orchestra, Tasmanian Symphony Orchestra and the Queensland Symphony Orchestra (Acting Principal Cor Anglais in 2012). He has been the Principal Cor Anglais for Orchestra Victoria since 2013, and that same year, the performance of Wagner’s The Ring Cycle was his highlight with the orchestra so far. He has a penchant for Russian composers, especially Stravinsky, Prokofiev and Shostakovich, and is proud to have played the music to three of Stravinsky’s early ballets – Firebird, Petrushka and The Rite of Spring. After a day of rehearsals, he likes to wind down with video games and dark chocolate.
Dafydd Camp’s Principal Cor Anglais position is generously supported by Linda Herd.
